We are currently collecting discarded, dated, broken or unwanted jewelry to refurbish and donate to the YWCA Alive Shelter. The gallery has been gathering old jewelry for the past few months and we are ready to close out the project and get to cleaning, updating and remaking the pieces we have collected in order to get them to their new owners by Christmas.
Jane Martin who is a jeweler started the project in Bainbridge Island. We picked up her idea and are happy to say that we already have about 4 large boxes ready to work on.
At our "All that Glitters" show we will have a sign up list for anyone interested in helping with the project. Anyone, regardless of skill level, is welcome!
In addition, we are collecting small jewelry boxes, decorative bags, cases....etc in order to present our treasures properly.
"The mission of StandUp For Kids is to help homeless and street kids. They do this, every day, in cities across America.
They carry out our mission through volunteers who go to the streets in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids improve their lives.
Their focus goes beyond street outreach and extends to deterrence and resource programs that we provide in schools and via the internet. But all facets of their mission are guided by the mandate that volunteers shall tell kids they care about them and then, at every point, prove it."
Go to their website to see what the current wish list is for your local area. We serve as a drop off point for any goods you would like to donate. We will make sure they make it to the SUFK representative, Jo Clark.
MWEEP - Masaai Women's Education and Empowerment Program
"MWEEP educates Maasai girls and women through cost-sharing scholarships and training programs. Funds help to offset the cost of Secondary School, Post Secondary, and Empowerment classes. MWEEP supports women who are working to start their own businesses and/or becoming community leaders. Whether a student or a budding entrepreneur, these determined ladies become independent, successful women."
